Friedland Industries has placed artworks created from scrap metal at the annual “ScrapFest” in Old Town on it’s property to be viewed by the public.
During Scrapfest, teams have an hour to collect up to 500 pounds of scrap from Friedland Industries’ scrap facility. During the next two weeks teams must execute their masterpiece. The unique sculptures, made entirely of scrap metal material, will be put on display at the free Old Town festival, alongside artisan booths, youth art activities, food and beer, and live music.
The sculptures are auctioned off and 40% of the proceeds from the Scrapfest competition auction goes to the artists, with the other portion being donated to the Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) to further their mission of community and economic development in Lansing’s historic and artistic Old Town.
