The 17 feet tall metal sculpture titled “A Great Place to Start” was funded by the LEAP Public Art for Communities grant and created by local scrap metal artist, Tom Sheerin, who was raised in the neighborhood.
The three human forms atop the sculpture are inspired by the letters DVF, for DeWitt Valley Farms. The D is touching its toes, V is springing into action, and F is making progress, all perched on a rising sun. The rising sun is an element in the township’s logo, tying this art piece with the DeWitt Township brand. The heads turn with the wind and appear to be globelike, providing a kinetic element. The various contours of this sculpture twinkle in the sun, inspiring people to come take a closer look at DeWitt Valley Farms.
